The letters on the walls of Venice’s oldest trattoria date back to the 1500s, reminding patrons of the trattoria’s past life as Venice’s post office. Since discovering its new identity nearly 200 years ago, this osteria – a hop from Venice’s fish market over a small bridge – has served homemade pasta and primarily fish-based dishes, including their year-round special orata alle poste vecie (orata baked with small tomatoes, olives and porcini mushrooms). If the weather is pleasant, request a table in the lovely garden room. According to some accounts, this was the first place to cook with spices from the Orient once merchants introduced them.
